AEA 2017 Fall Workshop: Beatrice Chestnut this November 4-5, 2017

Beatrice Chestnut presents… The Way of the Arrows: Using the Enneagram Symbol as a Path For Growth Bea is back! Join us for this interactive, ALL NEW workshop November 4 and 5, 2017. As you know, the “work” in the Enneagram is to loosen the grip of our type structure – to move into a fuller, freer life. This starts with getting out of our fixated habits of attention. One of the ways to do that is to take advantage of our connections to other numbers on the diagram – the lines the Enneagram calls the “arrow lines.” You can think of the high side of your connected types as “antidotes” for the habitual tendencies of your main type. For instance, Ones who experience a move to Seven (against the arrow to their “energizing point”) can access a lighter, more playful way of being. This can expand their capacity for relaxation, which can fortify their inner resources for the movement in the direction of the arrow (“resolution point”) to Four, where they can find inspiration for greater creativity and depth of feeling. Twos may learn to get in touch with their needs and feelings at point Four and access more inner power and strength at point Eight. To physically and graphically demonstrate the movement, a floor diagram of the Enneagram will provide some volunteers of each type with an opportunity to experience the movements while the rest of the group will experience this as witnesses and participants in the group experience. The format of this interactive, 2-day workshop is a combination of lecture, demonstrations, type groups, meditation and exercises. It provides information about and an experience of the use of arrow-line points for self-development. The relationship with wings will also be discussed. We will explore how these elements have been viewed in the past, how they are described by important Enneagram-related teachings from Gurdjieff, the Sufis, and others, and how we might usefully experience them in our own personal work. In this workshop you will learn: • How we can unconsciously slide to the low side of our arrow line points and become inspired by the high side of those same points. • How to consciously stretch or expand beyond your type’s focus of attention by using your main type’s wing points and arrow line-connected points. • The history behind the different elements of Enneagram symbol as a model of personal evolution—and revolution. • How to achieve more balance in life by more regularly embodying the gifts and strengths of our wings and arrow-line connected points. Beatrice Chestnut Biography: Beatrice has a Ph.D. in communication and an M.A. in clinical psychology. She studied politics and the mass media at Northwestern University on the way to earning a graduate degree in communication studies. She earned her MA in clinical psychology at the California Institute of Clinical Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco. She has been working with and studying the Enneagram system of personality types for twenty-five years, ever since it blew her mind in 1990. In July of 2013 she authored a book, The Complete Enneagram: 27 Paths to Greater Self-Knowledge, about how to become more self-aware using the Enneagram map. She studied the Enneagram system with Helen Palmer and David Daniels in the mid-1990s and completed their teacher certification in...

The Development and Structure of the Enneagram of Personality Types | September 9, 2017

The Development and Structure of the Enneagram of Personality Types(formerly known as Foundations of the Enneagram of Personality Types) This class provides a thorough groundwork for understanding and utilizing the Enneagram of Personality model.  Following the path of human development from early childhood, we describe the formation of personality type as habits of attention and emotion and the strategies that hold them in place in order to form an individual self-reflective consciousness. We also examine the relationship between the personality self and the inner/core self with its permanent essential qualities of the life force (the Virtues) and of Being itself (the Holy Ideas.)  This class also provides an overview of the paths and practices that lead toward personal integration. Understanding ourselves as well as others from this perspective greatly enhances our acceptance and appreciation of ourselves and others and provides clear direction for continued growth and development. Methods include teaching, exercises and brief panel interviews with class participants. The Essential Enneagram by Dr. David Daniels MD is used to assist participants in identifying their own Enneagram personality Type. This basic course is highly recommended as preparation for all of the continuing Enneagram classes. It is suitable for beginners as well as those who already have some familiarity with the Enneagram. This class is taught in a one day format.       EVENT DETAILS | REGISTER HERE When: September 9, 2017 Time: 9:00am – 5:00pm Where: Paradise Valley United Methodist Church Room H-1 | 4455 E. AEA SERIES: Type as False Identification | September 20- October 25, 2017 | Wednesday afternoons

AEA SERIES: Type as False Identification | September 20- October 25, 2017 | Wednesday afternoons

Type as False Identification Personality is “who I think I am.” It is a self-concept that builds in childhood and, once formed, is so much “who we are” that we do not recognize it as a highly sophisticated construct built from imagination, imitation, and a need to be appreciated. Our identifications protect us from feelings of anxiety, discomfort and uncertainty about facing the unknown, yet limit our freedom to experience and act from a truer, inner self. Jesus talks about dying to self, and it is this false self he is referring to, so that we can live true to the person we are meant to be. The objectives of this course are to clarify and deepen our understanding that personality is a structure that is formed and held in place by habits of attention and to develop and strengthen one’s awareness and experience of the inner observer. The format is highly interactive and includes exercises, practices, and dialogue on the habits of attention, idealization, identification, secondary gain, stress and security points that reinforce the structure of type. This is the first class in the Barriers to Spiritual Freedom Series, by the Arizona Enneagram Association. It is presented in six two-hour sessions. EVENT DETAILS | REGISTER HERE When: September 20- October 25, 2017 Time: 3:00 to 5:30 p.m., each Wednesday evening for 6 weeks Where: Paradise Valley United Methodist Church | Room H-2 4455 E. AEA Meetup September 21, 2017

AEA Meetup You might wonder, “What is a “Meetup?” Wikipedia of course has an excellent definition: “Meetup is an online social networking portal that facilitates offline group meetings in various localities around the world. Meetup allows members to find and join groups unified by a common interest.” Each month a different topic will be explored. Join us for our next Meetup on September 21, 2017, with Diane Stallings on Your Intelligent Body: Powerful Healing You Can Do For Each Type No matter which Triad we belong to on the wheel of the Enneagram, we carry some tension in our body. Our constriction under stress reveals itself in a somatic way, in the flesh. Somatic styles can be specific to personality types. What is your body telling you? Join us on September 21st and learn to find your constriction and balance it with expansion. In your body. It’s a delicious feeling, a healing. We’ll do a brief meditation for each type attending and give you a how-to chart relating to all nine types. Biography: Diane Stallings is a registered nurse actively working since 1978. Diane has been an Energy Worker since 2004 (skilled in many modalities). Diane believes that even after reaping the benefits of exploring our Enneagram type and its pathways, our subtle energy body reveals places in us that still want healing. These may be issues we have “successfully” hidden from ourselves, or issues we have visited often but still want to resolve. It is possible to fully release issues, especially through energy work. Energy healing opens new self-understanding and deeper healing on all levels. You may use it to focus on the spiritual, mental, emotional, or physical body — yet it will lighten all of these. Let your joy expand, while integrating that joy with exactly where you are right now. For more information, visit her website www.joystream.net Save the date for our next upcoming AEA Meetups: October 26- The Nine Shades of Shame and the Enneagram led by Linda Kriesel The Meetups are open to all of our members, those who know about the Enneagram, those who would like to know more, and to those who are brought by a friend. AEA 2018 Spring Workshop | An Enneagram Odyssey: Journey Beyond the Story of your Type with Michael Goldberg | April 21-22, 2018

Posted by on Dec 7, 2015 in AEA Special Events, Upcoming At-Glance Lists | 0 comments

An Enneagram Odyssey: Journey Beyond the Story of your Type Special Guests: Michael Goldberg “Every journey has a secret destination of which the traveler is unaware.” –Martin Buber Deeply rooted in ancient tradition, the ennea-types are stories that we tell ourselves and each other about how we make our place in the world and what really matters. Ultimately, these stories are about finding our way Home, to who we really are and what we may become. These stories have been told since the earliest days. In Homer’s Odyssey, Odysseus meets each of the 9 types in numerical order. With precision, wit and affection, Homer cuts to the heart of type. In this highly interactive workshop, we retell The Odyssey, along with other teaching stories from myth and tradition, for their unconventional insight into how our ennea-type comes to be, and what to do should you “get one.” Participants will take away a fresh look at the patterns of type; a compelling take on the ennea-types as stories which create deep connection to the life of each type; and a framework to engage this perspective for oneself and as teachers and guides for others. This workshop is suitable for all levels of experience with the Enneagram. No prior familiarity with myth is necessary. Michael Goldberg has taught the Enneagram worldwide for thirty years. He is the author of The 9 Ways of Working and Travels with Odysseus. He consults with the Enneagram to organizations including the Central Intelligence Agency, Honeywell, South African Airways, and TopHuman (China). He has been on over a hundred television and radio programs, including Fox News Channel, CNN, CBC (Canada) and ABC (Australia.) Michael has taught at graduate schools of law, management and psychology. He was an attorney at the now famous US Office of Government Ethics.
