AEA SPECIAL TOPIC: Take Off…Soar…Land: You are Going to Need Wings for That! with Kathryn Grant on April 22, 2017

Take Off…Soar…Land: You are Going to Need Wings for That! Special Guest: Kathryn Grant The Enneagram is about movement. It challenges us to ask ourselves questions and hints at possible answers. Wings, the style on either side of our home style, exemplify one of these inherent movements. Some Enneagram teachers teach that we have one wing, some teach that we have two, others dismiss the theory completely. With one wing, we fly in circles, if at all. No wings? We never get off the ground. Two wings, strong with conscious exercise, are necessary. Oscar Ichazo taught that our style is formed by the tension between our wings. No matter where we reside our wings are, in many ways, opposites of each other. We often feel stretched and pulled along the arc between our clockwise and counter-clockwise edges, and usually favor one over the other. Our underused wing is our shadow – and who knows what lurks there! In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to experience this stretch and identify your helpful wing and your more shadowy wing. And then devise a plan, and create an awareness to strengthen both wings. For only then can you take off, soar and land! The benefits of attending this workshop are: Learn about the importance of your wing styles Physically experience the differing energies that these spaces hold for you What may have been “fuzzy” understanding becomes a clear, body experience Biography: Kathryn Grant, has studied the Enneagram since 1994, Certified with Jerome Wagner, PhD. AEA SPECIAL TOPIC: Managing Conflict by Type with Renee Siegel on June 10, 2017

Managing Conflict by Type Special Guest: Renee Siegel We all have encounters with others where we do not agree with that other person, even if we care for them a great deal. We can be guaranteed that at some point in our lives, we will have this experience. Oftentimes, conflict arises as a result of this disagreement or not “seeing eye to eye”, and it does not seem like we will be able to see it through. Some of us are more comfortable with conflict than others. Conflict is actually one of the results of being relational. Conflict in relationships is not limited to one type of relationship such as with your spouse or significant other. Parents and children, siblings, friends, co-workers, in fact anyone you have a relationship with can become potentially someone that you have conflict with. Although conflict may be difficult for some, moving through it or coming to some sort of resolution, even if it is agreeing to disagree is important. One of the many benefits of studying and employing our understanding of the Enneagram in our lives is that is provides information about type or character structure and the somewhat predictable patterns of thinking, feeling and doing. In this workshop we will explore how each type either moves toward or away from conflict or perhaps doesn’t budge at all. Biography: Renee Siegel has been an integrative wellness provider for over 35 years. She was originally educated as a Marriage and Family therapist and began to question why people hold onto their patterns of thoughts, feelings, behaviors and illnesses. She is a licensed mental health counselor, licensed massage therapist and certified holistic healthcare practitioner. She was introduced to the Enneagram almost 10 years ago and it was “love at first sight and a game changer”. Since that time she has been an avid student of the Enneagram. She specialized in 3 areas in using the Enneagram: • Integrating Wellness Practices into Treatment • Improving Relationships both personally and professionally • Recovery from Substance and Process Addictions Renee has finished filming an addiction series where she has interviewed all nine types, each having both a substance and process addiction. She describes the enneagram as the “blueprint for health one can utilize when understanding the underlying energetic patterns that distract us from our journey in returning to wholeness.” EVENT DETAILS | When: Saturday, June 10, 2017 Time: 1:00 p.m – 5:00 p.m. Where: Paradise Valley United Methodist Church 4455 E. The Development and Structure of the Enneagram of Personality Types | February 3, 2018

The Development and Structure of the Enneagram of Personality Types(formerly known as Foundations of the Enneagram of Personality Types) This class provides a thorough groundwork for understanding and utilizing the Enneagram of Personality model.  Following the path of human development from early childhood, we describe the formation of personality type as habits of attention and emotion and the strategies that hold them in place in order to form an individual self-reflective consciousness. We also examine the relationship between the personality self and the inner/core self with its permanent essential qualities of the life force (the Virtues) and of Being itself (the Holy Ideas.)  This class also provides an overview of the paths and practices that lead toward personal integration. Understanding ourselves as well as others from this perspective greatly enhances our acceptance and appreciation of ourselves and others and provides clear direction for continued growth and development. Methods include teaching, exercises and brief panel interviews with class participants. The Essential Enneagram by Dr. David Daniels MD is used to assist participants in identifying their own Enneagram personality Type. This basic course is highly recommended as preparation for all of the continuing Enneagram classes. It is suitable for beginners as well as those who already have some familiarity with the Enneagram. This class is taught in a one day format.       EVENT DETAILS REGISTER HERE When: February 3, 2018 Time: 9:00am – 5:00pm Where: Paradise Valley United Methodist Church Room H-1 | 4455 E. AEA SERIES: Type as False Identification | September 20- October 25, 2017 | Wednesday afternoons

AEA SERIES: Type as False Identification | September 20- October 25, 2017 | Wednesday afternoons

Type as False Identification Personality is “who I think I am.” It is a self-concept that builds in childhood and, once formed, is so much “who we are” that we do not recognize it as a highly sophisticated construct built from imagination, imitation, and a need to be appreciated. Our identifications protect us from feelings of anxiety, discomfort and uncertainty about facing the unknown, yet limit our freedom to experience and act from a truer, inner self. Jesus talks about dying to self, and it is this false self he is referring to, so that we can live true to the person we are meant to be. The objectives of this course are to clarify and deepen our understanding that personality is a structure that is formed and held in place by habits of attention and to develop and strengthen one’s awareness and experience of the inner observer. The format is highly interactive and includes exercises, practices, and dialogue on the habits of attention, idealization, identification, secondary gain, stress and security points that reinforce the structure of type. This is the first class in the Barriers to Spiritual Freedom Series, by the Arizona Enneagram Association. It is presented in six two-hour sessions. EVENT DETAILS | REGISTER When: September 20- October 25, 2017 Time: 3:00 to 5:30 p.m., each Wednesday evening for 6 weeks Where: Paradise Valley United Methodist Church | Room H-2 4455 E. AEA Meetup October 26, 2017

AEA Meetup You might wonder, “What is a “Meetup?” Wikipedia of course has an excellent definition: “Meetup is an online social networking portal that facilitates offline group meetings in various localities around the world. Meetup allows members to find and join groups unified by a common interest.” Each month a different topic will be explored. Join us for our next Meetup on October 26*, 2017 with Linda Kriesel on The Nine Shades of Shame and the Enneagram *This month’s meetup will be on the 4th Thursday of October.* Let’s spend an evening allowing ourselves to be curious and explore the relationship between shame and your identified type. After an introduction to the concept of shame, and its limiting effects, we will meet in “like type” groups to share. 1.  What triggers your shame? 2.  How do you experience shame i.e., in your head, heart, body or perhaps in all three? 3.  What are the strengths of your type that interrupt your shame spiral and helps you to move toward increased awareness, healing and self- compassion? Each group will have the opportunity to share their unique type process. The hope is that at the close of the evening we will have a better understanding of the significance of our shame, the tools to restore us to groundedness and the preciousness and power of our authenticity. Biography:  Linda Kriesel, M.A., L.P.C. has been practicing the art of psychotherapy for over 40 years. Her original training was psychodynamic and over time has complimented her work with the extensive study of family origin, dream work, mindfulness and now with great respect the enneagram. She offers individual, adolescent, couples and group psychotherapy as well as consultation to family- owned businesses, medical practices, and CEO’s of Fortune 500 companies. She is also recognized as a keynote speaker, has conducted weekend workshops and facilitated week long intensives. Introductory Tour of the Types | November 3, 2017

Presented by Jaye Andres Have you ever wondered why others don’t see things the way you do? How we view the world and respond to it is based on the viewpoints of our personality types and the patterns formed by them, combined with our own unique “essential self”. What is the Enneagram (pronounced Any-a-gram)? It’s a powerful overview of 9 distinct personality types; each with its own strengths, challenges, motivations, and positive paths for growth. Taught worldwide, it crosses gender and cultural lines. What can the Enneagram do for you? Know yourself as never before; learn about others; enhance communication skills; make better decisions; resolve conflicts-internal and external; respond better to challenging situations; improve your relationships. In this 3 hour Introduction, in addition to an overview of the system, you will learn about the motivational core set- up of each of the nine types. And, since there’s no better way to learn than from the types themselves, you will hear from 3 exemplars of each type (via video). By the end of this introduction participants report that they have either found their type, or have it narrowed down to two. For those already familiar with the Enneagram this intro serves as a powerful review and delivers further understanding of the types. This class is $25 as a standalone class, or this class is included in the registration fee for our Fall Workshop with Beatrice Chestnut on November 4-5, 2017.     REGISTER TODAY EVENT DETAILS When: November 3, 2017 Time: 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Where: Paradise Valley United Methodist Church | TBD Cost: $25 for standalone class, or this class is included in the registration fee for the workshop. AEA 2017 Fall Workshop: Beatrice Chestnut with Uranio Paes this November 4-5, 2017

AEA 2017 Fall Workshop: Beatrice Chestnut with Uranio Paes this November 4-5, 2017

Bea is back!!! You’re in for a treat! – join us for this interactive, NEW workshop on November 4th through 5th… Beatrice Chestnut with Special Guest Uranio Paes presents… The Way of the Arrows: Using the Enneagram Symbol as a Path For Growth “Bea’s and Uranio’s teaching together is increasingly seamless. Bea, a Type 2, offers an approach grounded in psychology and therapy, and Uranio, a Type 5, brings more esoteric ideas about inner work which Bea translates into practical ways of working and thinking. That makes this workshop a must see!” The AEA originally asked Bea and Uranio to present together because their collaboration is so unique and powerful but Uranio was not available. That has changed!!! This workshop is a “A must for those who wish to deepen their understanding of the profundity of the Enneagram model.” As you know, the “work” in the Enneagram is to loosen the grip of our type structure – to move into a fuller, freer life. This starts with getting out of our fixated habits of attention. One of the ways to do that is to take advantage of our connections to other numbers on the diagram – the lines the Enneagram calls the “arrow lines.” You can think of the high side of your connected types as “antidotes” for the habitual tendencies of your main type. For instance, Ones who experience a move to Seven (against the arrow to their “energizing point”) can access a lighter, more playful way of being. This can expand their capacity for relaxation, which can fortify their inner resources for the movement in the direction of the arrow (“resolution point”) to Four, where they can find inspiration for greater creativity and depth of feeling. Twos may learn to get in touch with their needs and feelings at point Four and access more inner power and strength at point Eight. To physically and graphically demonstrate the movement, a floor diagram of the Enneagram will provide some volunteers of each type with an opportunity to experience the movements while the rest of the group will experience this as witnesses and participants in the group experience. The format of this interactive, 2-day workshop is a combination of lecture, demonstrations, type groups, meditation and exercises. It provides information about and an experience of the use of arrow-line points for self-development. The relationship with wings will also be discussed. We will explore how these elements have been viewed in the past, how they are described by important Enneagram-related teachings from Gurdjieff, the Sufis, and others, and how we might usefully experience them in our own personal work. In this workshop you will learn: • How we can unconsciously slide to the low side of our arrow line points and become inspired by the high side of those same points. • How to consciously stretch or expand beyond your type’s focus of attention by using your main type’s wing points and arrow line-connected points. • The history behind the different elements of Enneagram symbol as a model of personal evolution—and revolution. • How to achieve more balance in life by more regularly embodying the gifts and strengths of our wings and arrow-line connected points. Beatrice Chestnut Biography: Beatrice has a Ph.D. in communication and an M.A. in clinical psychology. She studied...
